From the Latin gravidus, "heavy" or "laden." In obstetrics, the related term gravida counts how many times a person has been pregnant, whatever the outcome — live birth, miscarriage, or pregnancy loss.
It means here at Gravid, we value every pregnancy.
Pregnancy information, made simple.
Gravid is run by midwives and medical professionals, supporting women through pregnancy with the right information and the confidence to trust it. It's for everyone — not just those who fit the usual picture — and it's built to make normal life work for pregnancy, rather than ask you to put life on hold.
Your body, your baby, your decisions. We give you the evidence — what you do with it is always yours to choose.— Rebecca Wilyman, Founder & Midwife
Classes for every stage
Every class is led by a qualified practitioner. Within each stage there are different levels of class on offer — some higher-intensity HIIT Pilates, some slower-paced aerobic sessions — so when booking, women can choose whatever's right for them: supporting regular movement and routine without stopping altogether, while still offering more adaptive classes alongside them. Here's the kind of class you'll find at each stage — download the Gravid app for full class details, schedules and to subscribe.
Your journey with Gravid
Most families move through four stages. Start wherever you are — there's no need to have taken the earlier ones.
Getting your bearings
Classes that adapt to whatever this stage looks like for you — working around morning sickness, or simply continuing your normal fitness. The difference is doing it alongside other women in the same situation.
Building strength & calm
Pregnancy Pilates continues at a pace that suits this stage, alongside early groundwork for the breathing and hypnobirthing techniques.
Preparing for birth
Preparation for labour, and discussion about hospital and what to expect, built right into your regular classes.
The fourth trimester
Mums & Baby classes together, or sessions just for mums as you relearn your body postpartum.
Supporting women, partners and families to get the best out of pregnancy — through education, health and wellbeing.
Learn with Gravid
The same explainers we publish for our community, gathered by topic — shaped by our clinical team, and checked against the evidence.
Why blood pressure often drops in pregnancy
Progesterone relaxes the muscles in your blood vessels, causing them to widen — one of the reasons blood pressure often drops in pregnancy.
Eating dates starts labour
We separate the evidence from the old wives' tale.
Do I have to lose my mucus plug?
Real questions from our classes, answered honestly.
What should you know before hospital?
Practical preparation, not a packing-list panic.
What nobody tells you about the first week
The fourth trimester, covered honestly.
What does the research actually say?
Sources, cited and explained — never just a statistic.
Delivered by qualified health professionals
Every Gravid class is led by someone with recognised clinical training in their field — not a generic fitness qualification.
Rebecca Wilyman
Rebecca brings six years of midwifery practice across the UK and Australia, with a particular focus on birth preparation and postnatal recovery. Her clinical experience shaped Gravid's approach: that good outcomes are built on consistent, evidence-based fundamentals — the daily routines and preparation that reduce trauma during birth and beyond. She founded Gravid to give women that grounding, and the confidence to trust their bodies through labour and recovery.
Alizée Delplanque
Alizée is a specialist women's and pelvic health physiotherapist with nine years of clinical practice, and the founder of Mama Wand. Her work centres on the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and core — restoring strength and function rather than simply managing symptoms. Grounded in a preventive approach, she helps women guard against injury and long-term dysfunction, and rebuild genuine confidence in their bodies.
Classes & subscriptions
Classes run on a rolling monthly subscription, so you can join or move between stages as your pregnancy progresses. Subscriptions suit any gestation and any point in your pregnancy — come whichever class suits you, whenever suits you. As a general guide: starting before 24 weeks, a 6-month subscription is recommended; joining later in pregnancy, a 1–3 month subscription carrying into the postnatal period usually fits better.
